How the Google Analytics integration works
What it does
- One field, and it is on.The measurement ID from your GA4 data stream is the whole configuration. No container to wire up, no snippet to paste into a theme.
- Every public page, not just posts.The homepage, each post, the category and tag archives and the search page. Adding a page type later does not mean remembering to tag it.
- Your own admin sessions never count.The dashboard renders your blog inside preview frames. Those loads are skipped deliberately, so clicking around your own settings cannot inflate your traffic.
- GA4 sets cookies — said here, not discovered later.Which means a consent banner in the UK and EU, and that banner is yours to add. Plausible and Fathom are on this page precisely because they do not need one.
- Do Not Track, if you want it honoured.An optional switch stops the tag loading at all for visitors whose browser sends the header — not loaded and then silenced, genuinely not loaded.
How to connect it
- 1Copy the measurement IDIn Google Analytics: Admin → Data streams → your web stream. It starts with G-.
- 2Paste it into the blogBlog settings → Analytics, or Integrations → Analytics for the account-wide list. Press Connect on the Google Analytics row.
- 3Check it in realtimeOpen the blog in a private window and watch the realtime report. It is live from the next page load.
